Where can you buy British-made Christmas Decorations?
If you’re looking for Christmas decorations that are made in Britain then look no further. We’ll help you make your house look festive whilst still buying locally made products.
Let’s start with the tinsel! We have only found one tinsel manufacturer in Britain but they supply some of the biggest UK retailers and supermarkets and create bespoke products too. Festive produce a vast amount of tinsel every year in their South Wales factory, employing 65 staff from the local area. From May to November, Festive make tinsel 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to meet the growing demand.
Festive make a strong case as to why you should buy UK made tinsel…”One container full of raw materials weighing 16,000kgs is enough to make 400,000 pieces of tinsel in the UK. To ship that amount of finished tinsel from China, you would need approximately 14 containers, each holding 28,000 pieces of tinsel. By making it in the UK you end up with a far greater product as the tinsel hasn’t been flat packed and shipped in hot containers for months.”
When choosing your Christmas Crackers this year there are a few options to keep it British-made. Nancy and Betty are an independent stationery design brand creating beautifully designed crackers with traditional gifts such as origami sets, badges, marbles, wooden pencil sharpeners, crayons and chalks.
For Bespoke crackers visit Simply Crackers. They manufacture all the crackers by hand in Nottingham. They only make Christmas crackers per specification and their clients include Fortnum Mason, Paperchase and Selfridges.
Founded in 2012 and based in the Midlands, Kate Sproston Designs creates embroidered gifts and products for the home. Her collections include reusable embroidered crackers offering an innovative and eco-friendly alternative.
When it comes to decorating your tree there is a huge choice of British-made products. Many are by independent designers and makers. You can have a unique and beautiful Christmas and support British manufacturing and design by visiting local craft fairs or even shopping from the comfort of your own armchair by using our Make it British directory, or sites such as notonthehighstreet.com. Just make sure to filter for ‘Made in Britain’.
Sadly we have yet to find anyone manufacturing artificial Christmas trees in the UK, or any fairy lights. If you can help us add these to our list, or any other Christmas decorations made in Britain, please write a comment below.
