I am an artist based in Kent, UK, making floral silkscreen prints by hand from my garden studio. I am inspired by English gardens and flowers - and one garden in particular, a beloved childhood home in Kent. My prints are joyful, colourful and contemporary and each one features a different English garden flower.
From these original handmade prints have grown a new range of floral fine bone china mugs made 100% in Britain at a heritage pottery. These premium quality mugs are made of Cornish clay making them fully sustainable.
My story:
As a small child I moved from London to a tumbledown mill house in a Kent village. As I grew there, the garden grew and captivated me. After many happy years there, my parents tragically became ill with Alzheimer's and the house had to be sold. But before we said goodbye I spent a summer drawing the flowers that came and went in order to keep hold of something of that special place. From these drawings I added to my range of floral silkscreen prints.
Tea in the garden was a big part of life at the mill, whether a quiet mug of tea by a stream or pond, or a gardener's tea break. It was therefore a logical progression that I should create a garden range of mugs from my floral artwork. I found a pottery in Stoke who are one of the last to make 100% British fine bone china which was totally aligned with my English garden inspiration.
The art and mugs together are a legacy to a special place, and a reminder that while we cannot stop time from passing by, we can find something beautiful to hold on to.
The range is growing, and I will continue to add flowers to the garden.
All my mugs are made at Duchess China 1888 out of Cornish Clay.
