Baavet was established at the height of the financial crash of 2008/09 at the the same wool from farms was worth nothing. Farmers were trying to burn their wool (which is difficult to say the least). At this time we (Roger and Lesley Payne) had a hill farm in Snowdonia and were facing all these difficulties and during a 10 minute drive to a friends discussing what we could do we came up with the idea of a wool duvet - a Baavet.

We didn't know if it was possible to make a wool duvet and we hadn't any experience of manufacturing but decided to go ahead and try. Through months of searching up and down the country we realised there was no one in the UK with the expertise or the machinery to make wool duvets. To cut a long story short we eventually found a mill that had a wool carding machine (wool combing) that was wide enough to make a duvet. We then found a quilting machine manufacturer and managed to get the two together and create a wool duvet production line. There followed months of trial and error. But just before going bankrupt we managed to produce a good quality product. By this time we had become manufacturers as well as online sellers.

Our products now range from duvets to pillows, mattress protectors, mattresses and even doggy duvets. We sell mainly online but Baavet products are available in stores nationally, we also attend about 100 shows and events around the country.

We control every step of the way for your bedding products from EWE to YOU. We buy directly from local farmers paying them a premium for their wool. We collect the wool and take it to our wool merchant in Halifax there its graded (sorted) and sent to Dewsbury for washing. It then goes to a mill in Huddersfield where the initial carding (combing) and quilting is done on our quilting machine before coming down to North Wales in 30 metre rolls to be finished in our factory situated under the ancient walls of Harlech castle. We also make the pillows and doggy duvets here.

We source as much as we can in the UK or buy directly through British merchants. The wool comes directly from British farms chosen by us and we pay them a premium for their wool. Unfortunately there is no one in the UK that currently weaves the high quality cotton we require so this is made in China and comes through British Merchants to us. Our packaging comes from British companies.
