We design and handcraft Ltd edition ranges of furniture using thoughtfully sourced, 'hyper-local' British materials and skills. We use beautiful wool from one of England’s oldest mills nestled in Yorkshire, sustainably sourced wood from local FSC suppliers, and our oak and beech legs are hand-turned in Manchester. Central to our mission is the creation of ‘thoughtful furniture’ instead of ‘fast furniture’.
Twisted Loom was founded by upholsterer Charlotte Cochrane in 2020.
In 2019, I decided I wanted to add to the joys of upholstering other peoples’ furniture by designing and handcrafting my own long-lasting pieces right here in Manchester. Why not harness local talent and beautiful British materials to make pieces of real quality and character, unlike anything else for sale? Ultimately, I wanted to create something ‘hyper-local’ made by human hands that care. After a year of prototyping and planning, bleeding fingers and thinking too much, my mission was beginning to take shape. It could be considered bad-timing that I launched my first collection during Lockdown! Having said this, I think people are now, more than ever, reflecting on where their purchases come from and are keen to support British-made companies and products. We hope that by creating more of a connection between the maker and consumer, we can instil a more sustainable and thoughtful consumption of furniture.
We use beautiful British materials to make ottomans, benches, footstools and stools. Our materials come from local suppliers and our furniture is crafted in our Manchester studio.
All materials and components are sourced locally from the northwest of England. Our sustainable timber is sourced from FSC suppliers and our legs are hand-turned from UK-grown wood, where possible. We’re proud to support our British textile industry and use wool from two of Yorkshire’s oldest mills, each with a heritage dating back hundreds of years.
