Nathalie Sergent and Zara d'Abo both lived and worked in East Africa for over fifteen years. Returning to this climate, they wanted to work in a fabric more suited to these latitudes but retaining a love of the colour and print they were used to in Kenya, they decided to line all their tweed in batik prints, printed in Holland and known as Dutch wax. Luggage and travel accessories are made for us in Kenya. Settlers Stores is based in Frome, Somerset and all our clothes are made here in the UK. Bespoke commissions are undertaken in our workshop in Frome.
Settlers Stores' range of country clothing is an eclectic blend of bespoke Scottish tweed and Dutch wax prints. Inspired by a love of Africa and the art of safari and travel, we make clothing to have adventures in. For people who love being outdoors but don't want to compromise style for function. All finished by hand in Somerset, we make bespoke combinations to order, in our Frome workshop.
Most of our tweeds are woven for us in the Scottish Borders by Robin of Andrew Elliot. We do also work with one mill on Lewis that weaves a blend of Harris tweed and lambswool to make a lighter weight, less scratchy alternative, to traditional Harris tweed. The Dutch wax batik we use is printed in Holland and, either, sourced direct or from wholesalers in Petticoat Lane. We focus on patterns and bespoke tailoring and finishing in our Frome workshop while main production is done in London.
