Founded in 1805 James Ince & Sons (Umbrellas) Ltd have been making umbrellas for over 215 years. We are a family run business and the oldest umbrella manufacturer in the UK. We value traditional production methods and hand craft skills which we encourage here in our workshop in Bethnal Green, East London.
We offer a bespoke commission manufacturing service and can tailor the design and style of the umbrella to suit your unique specifications. This combination of quality manufacture and style is recognised by local designers, as well as well known brands, labels and the promotion & incentives industry.
We make all styles of umbrellas from elegant ladies through to solid stick gents umbrellas, city slim umbrellas, folding umbrellas to large parasols. We also specialise in a variety of workplace umbrellas such as the large Doorman's Umbrellas for the hotel industry; Newspaper Umbrellas for the Newspaper vendors; Bookmakers Umbrellas (mush's) for the races; and Engineering umbrellas for outdoor and trackside work.
We work with designers and can digitally print or screen print designs onto our umbrellas. We also work on creative projects for the theatre and film industry and have great fun in making unusual colourful props.
In our East London workshop in Vyner Street, Bethnal Green E2 - a stone’s throw away from our first beginnings in Spitalfields.
James Ince Umbrellas 1805 is an ethical company and we pride ourselves in promoting a sustainable supply chain. We work hard to source our materials from as close to home as possible from traceable, sustainable sources. For instance our Beechwood Umbrellas use FSC beechwood dowels turned in Cheshire and finished in Kent. Our stainless steel springs are made in Sheffield, bias binding in Suffolk, our screen printing is all done locally and our handles and cloth are Italian made.
