The UK’s biggest shoe maker has stepped up to back apprenticeships, upskilling their existing workforce and attracting new talent in to the business.
Make it British member Hotter is a leading British footwear brand based in Lancashire. The company employs over 1,200 people and has over 3 million customers in the UK and overseas. Its state-of-the-art factory produces a pair of hand finished shoes every 20 seconds – making it the UK’s largest shoe manufacturer*. Now they have stepped up to develop apprenticeships.
“Our Learning and Development team have been working closely with the British Footwear Association and other leading shoemaker employers, to create the industry specific Footwear Manufacturer Apprenticeship. This initiative, which supports the government’s commitment to apprenticeships, will ensure existing and future employees have access to the knowledge and skills they need to ensure the continued growth and success of the UK footwear sector.” commented Sara Prowse, CEO.
She added “We also feel it is imperative that we support apprenticeships as they will significantly enhance the development of our people. We currently have 60 staff across the business enrolled on apprenticeships from level 2 to level 5, covering a wide range of areas including our Retail, Customer Services, Warehouse and Storage.”
Tony Rankin, Learning and Development Manager said “We are committed to investing in the future skills of our teams with high quality career training that will provide the UK footwear industry with a more dynamic and experienced workforce.
“We currently have four spaces available at our factory in Lancashire for the new Footwear Manufacturer Apprenticeship for ages 18 plus, interested candidates must have a keen interest in the manufacturing process behind producing quality footwear, be self-motivated and work well within a team. This apprenticeship will give successful applicants the chance to progress within the industry, gain technical knowledge and give a greater understanding of a highly advanced technical process.”
