Glencroft Countrywear

About

Glencroft was established in the Yorkshire Dales in 1987 as a British brand of high quality wool, tweed and sheepskin traditional country clothing for all ages.

Glencroft is a family business based in Clapham, North Yorkshire. We are primarily a trade and wholesale business supplying shops all over the UK and internationally, however you can now also purchase directly from us via our retail website (linked in our profile).

Richard and Justina started the business in 1987 with the goal of providing high quality British countrywear and woollen and sheepskin goods. This goal still lies at the heart of the business, as do Richard and Justina who continue to run the business 30 years later alongside their son Edward, who became partner in 2013. Our vision for the business is to continue providing high-quality natural British goods to retailers worldwide, whilst also maintaining our quality British brand, Glencroft.

Our brand was set up to reflect our British and Yorkshire heritage, as well as our close links to Scotland where many of our loyal trade customers are based- many of our materials are Scottish (including Harris Tweed) and we incorporate many Scottish designs into our products.

Wherever possible, Glencroft manufactures products in the UK. All jumpers are made in the North of England and most are also made from British wool (we have a few British made Merino wool jumpers too). All hats and caps are made in the North of England. All woven scarves are made in Yorkshire woollen mills.. Our knitted scarves are also made from British wool. Natural and rare breed rugs are made from British sheep, tanned in the UK and finished by Richard Sexton by hand in the Richard Sexton & Co. warehouse. All wool lined moccasins and slippers are made in the UK. Sheepskin snuggle boots are also made in the UK. Most accessories are made in the UK. This includes all handbags, leather items (belts and keyrings), dusters, insoles, sheepskin brushes, model sheep and 90% of socks. All woven travel rugs are made in Yorkshire woollen mills. The origin of all of our retail products is clearly displayed on our retail website.

Components

Most of our jumpers are made from British wool and some are made from merino wool, but all of our jumpers are manufactured in Britain, Manchester to be precise. Richard Sexton & Co are members of the British Wool Marketing Board and are committed to using British Wool wherever possible. Sheepskin for hats is sourced from a British tannery where possible (about half of all hat manufacture). Other sheepskin is sourced from Europe, mainly Iceland or Portugal). Genuine Harris Tweed woven in the Outer Hebrides is used for a selection of hats, handbags and on some jumpers. All labels are manufactured in either the UK and Turkey by British label firms. Where Richard Sexton & Co has purchased packaging this has been made in the UK. All boxes used for our wholesaling business are being reused, no new boxes are purchased. Sheepskin slippers and gloves are made in the EU from British and European skins.
