Robert Mackie was established in 1845 making traditional Scottish Glengarry and Balmoral headwear, “Bonnets”. These are still manufactured here today. Over the past 170 years Robert Mackie has diversified into knitted accessories and now manufactures hats, scarves, gloves and throws and fashion products.
Robert Mackie have a knowledgeable in-house design department and experienced technicians who can interpret customer designs. The company stock many shades of lambswool plus many other yarns. The V Bed knitting machines in gauges from 3.5 to 12 allow for products in jacquard, stitch interest, plain and combinations of these. We also have a full finishing plant including washing and drying. Minimum orders vary but on average 200 pieces and 50 pieces in each colour.
We encourage face to face meetings where customers can browse through our extensive collection of samples at our mill. With our location being closer to many of our markets than our Far East competitors we are able to offer shorter lead times on samples and order delivery. Combined with relatively low minimums this enables customers to place trial orders to determine successful product sales lines and then reorder those products.
The company are very proud of the fact that everything is manufactured in-house, and there is no external sourcing, so everything is labelled “Made in Scotland.’’ We are a Woolmark licensee, Sedex member (with corresponding Sepa Audit and Smeta Report) work with the Ethical Trade Initiative and are proud members of UKFT and Textiles Scotland.
We work closely with our customers to develop relationships and products that are unique to themselves. Robert Mackie are here to support and guide our customers through every process from an idea to finished product.
