The British-made capsule collection for Autumn Winter 2012 is comprised of eight pieces of outerwear that juxtaposes tweed, herringbone and Prince of Wales check. The range will launch in mid-July and be available online and in the Oxford St flagship. Prices range from £125 and £275.

As reported in an article we posted earlier this year, Top Shop boss Sir Philip Green claims to be a keen supporter of British manufacturing, and Top Shop have produced garments made in Britain in the past. However, it would be great to see the retailer committing to a larger range of products made in Britain. Eight garments in a couple of stores must be a fraction of the total Top Shop buying budget for the season. Come on Sir Philip – put your money where you mouth is and really support our local manufacturers!

The Top Shop made in Britain collection will be available from mid-July. Check out Topshop.com for more details.

No, I couldn’t ascertain that. Do you know? Go on, shock me and tell me they’re British too…

Philip Green actually said ‘he is a keen supporter of British manufacturing’?!? I find him talking about this subject an insult to the people who make in the U.K.
Having worked on both sides of the fence at Top Shop (supplying and designing as-well as working closely with the buying team) i never once heard British manufacturing being mentioned.
This is just a new press angle to them.

      Hi Emily

You are completely right. In fact, I don’t know what I was thinking when I wrote this original post and I have now re-written it a little to reflect my real thoughts on the matter!

In a year that is focussed on our top British sportsmen and sportswomen, it may be a good time to look at sports wear manufactured in Britain for British athletes! There seems to be as lot of ‘big’ companies notorious for overseas manufacturing trying to jump on the ‘British made’ bandwagon for 2012 due to the Jubilee and Olympics. Will they be doing the same next year?

Matt that is a brilliant idea, why didn’t I think of that!
I’m going to get on to that article right away – keep an eye out for it.
