We’re proud to announce the 3 members of Make it British who were judged as winners at the Great British Entrepreneur Awards this year
Back in May, Make it British announced our partnership with the Great British Entrepreneur Awards for 2021. Since then, hundreds of our members entered the coveted awards with a chance to win in one of 18 categories.
We’re hugely proud to announce that 3 of our Make it British members have been chosen as winners of the Great British Entrepreneur Awards!
Made in UK Award – in partnership with Make it British for the Great British Entrepreneur Awards
As a special addition for this year, Make it British has supported the Made in the UK Award, a new category for 2021. The award recognises an entrepreneur whose business manufactures its products in the UK.
Winner for the North West region: HebTroCo
West Yorkshire-based brand HebTroCo, known for trousers made in the UK, along with a whole range of practical products made here, was awarded the Made in UK Award in the North West region.
Following their successful Kickstarter campaign in 2016 which led to the brand selling out their initial batch of 176 pairs of trousers in less than 5 hours, Brant Richard & Ed Oxley took on HebTroCo full time. The business has now expanded to sell a whole collection of products including denim jeans, shirts, socks, hats all made right here in the UK.
Winner for the South East region: Genevieve Sweeney
On the opposite end of the country, knitwear brand Genevieve Sweeney was awarded the Made in UK Award in the South East region.
Genevieve Sweeney is no ordinary knitwear label. 2 years before the brand Genevieve Sweeney launched, founder Genevieve Smart travelled the UK meeting artisan knitters, small family-run factories and yarn mills. Falling in love with their passion for craftsmanship and dedication to quality, Genevieve was inspired to launch her own brand.
Genevieve now hand-selects mills and factories around the UK to help drive British manufacturing forward by embracing innovation. Forever blending traditional yarns in striking, unexpected hues and geometric patterns, Genevieve Sweeney is passionate about exploring the dialogue between old and new. The result is a collection of truly timeless knitwear.
Creative Industries Entrepreneur of the Year
Winner for the North West region: Zoe Glencross
Finally, chosen as one of the UK’s Creative Industries Entrepreneur of the Year, interiors brand Zoe Glencross was chosen as the winner in the North West region.
Designer Zoe Glencross has always had a passion for interiors and so she took the opportunity to learn the craft of fabric design and print, combining her love of colour, paint and fabric.
Now, the Zoe Glencross collection features 3 different fabrics in a wide range of designs on various home textiles furnishings. They work with some of England’s best print manufacturers, translating Zoe’s hand-printed designs onto screens for large scale production.
Congratulations to not only our Make it British members who won these awards, but also all of those who entered and were chosen as finalists – the competition was so tough!
